According to the New Straits Time, PLUS stated that 2022 will be a year of data collecting through artificial intelligence (AI) machine learning, system optimization, and fine tuning to make the traveling experience even better.

PLUS Malaysia Bhd plans to increase the use of radio frequency identification (RFID) for heavy vehicles like buses and trucks for toll payment. PLUS' RFID toll payment trial project on intra-city roads began in August 2017 and includes Duke, Grand Saga, Maju Expressway (MEX), Kesas, Besraya, New Pantai Expressway (NPE), and others. PLUS launched an RFID public pilot in July 2020 at nine toll closed system toll plazas between Hutan Kampung and Sungai Dua in the north, which became operational on October 31 last year, 16 months later. Following that, PLUS began a 650-kilometer-long RFID public trial from Juru to Skudai on January 15, this year.

Class 1 passenger vehicles, such as SUVs, vans, and pick-up trucks, are encouraged to use it. The RFID toll payment method was initially implemented on open-toll highways, where fixed toll rates are imposed depending on vehicle type. PLUS stated that the implementation of RFID technology was aligned with the government's aim to transition to a Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll collecting system. PLUS also stated that RFID was still a public pilot aimed at resolving issues such as enforcement, payment alternatives, and customer convenience. The Touch 'n Go RFID is a third toll payment method for highway users, following the Touch 'n Go card and SmartTAG options.
